Diagnostic laparoscopy

Preparation:
As for a general anaesthetic, patients require to fast for 6 hours prior to the procedure

Procedure:
Number of ports and sites of these is dependent upon clinical situation and this will be discussed with you by your consultant

Anaesthetic:
General

Post Op:
Patients can start eating after recovery from anaesthesia. As with many intra-abdominal laparoscopic procedures shoulder tip pain may be a problem over the initial post-operative period. Patients are generally mobile within the first 24hours.
