Epigastric Hernia
Pre-Operative preparation:
Standard general anaesthetic preparation.
Operation:
Options will be either insertion of a nylon mesh or direct suture to repair the hernia defect. A mesh can be placed either laparoscopically or through an open incision.
Anaesthesia:
Smaller herniae may be repaired under local anaesthetic but most (and certainly laparoscopic procedures) will require a general anaesthetic.
Post Op:
Day case or with an overnight stay in hospital. Pain killers are likely to be required for several days after the operation. In most cases patients will be mobile from an early stage and can expect to be fully recovered after 2-3 weeks
