Excision of skin or subcutaneous lesions

Preparation
Depending upon the location of the lesion it may be necessary to shave an area of skin, this will be done in the operating theatre.
These procedures do not generally require specific preparation unless a general anaesthetic is to be used in which case standard preparation as for an anaesthetic.

Procedure:
A local anaesthetic will be injected into the area of the lesion. Thereafter the lesion will be excised and the skin sutured. Depending upon the part of the body involved the sutures may either be absorbable or non-absorbable.
Tissue samples removed may be sent for analysis.

Anaesthetic:
Usually these procedures are performed using a local anaesthetic. A general may be required if in a sensitive area of the body or if a large number of lesions are to be removed.

Post Op:
Out-patient procedure.
