When might you use us?
If your GP (or another healthcare expert) suggests you need a surgical operation or require further investigation we believe that Aberdeen Surgical offers many advantages for you as an individual:
- We can reduce your waiting time. We offer daily clinics and appointments can be offered on the day of referral or at a time to suit you.
- We offer a personalised, friendly service that puts your needs first, at every stage.
- We give you choice. We offer the best surgical treatment for you, at you convenience, including options you may not be able to get on the NHS.
- We can liaise with your insurance company, to minimise the wait for approval – see below.
- Our role in your well-being doesn’t finish with surgery. We help, support and advise you through your recovery and beyond.
Will your insurance cover you?
We can treat patients who hold policies with most major private medical insurance providers. (We do not offer our own insurance scheme.)
Organising medical insurance can be stressful at the best of times. Insurance companies require a GP referral letter before they consider financing any treatment. Following treatment, insurance companies then normally request a completion form from consultants.
We help, by managing this process for you. As part of our service, we liaise with your insurance company to process claims, ensure you are covered for each aspect of your treatment, and notify them promptly of all costs involved.
I do not have private medical insurance, can I still come to Aberdeen Surgical?
Approximately 20% of our patients are self paying. We work closely with BMI hospitals to ensure a package which is cost effective for all aspects of care and finance programs are available through BMI (is it worth a link at this point?)

Where are we based?
We provide our state-of-the-art procedures in Aberdeen’s clean, safe and modern Albyn hospital.
There are three operating theatres and 30 private beds with en-suite facilities, satellite TV and telephone. Immediate access to nursing support is always available via a patient/nurse call system.
