Therapeutic Flexible Sigmoidoscopy with snaring or excision of lesion
Pre-Operative preparation:
Patients will normally require an enema to be administered prior to the procedure.
Procedure:
A fibre optic endoscope is passed into the rectum and left side of the large bowel. A mucosal lesion is encircled with a snare and removed using high frequency diathermy.
Sedation:
Some patients elect not to have any sedation alternatively others have the procedure performed after the administration of an intravenous sedative.
Post Op:
Sedation will require several hours to wear off and patients should not drive or use heavy machinery for 24 hours.
